I am blown away by UTAH!
It is SPECTACULAR! It has become my newest painting passion. The land in every direction is filled with compositions to paint. It's vast cobalt skies compliment the variegated terrain. It bends and folds, then lifts and sinks while torrent rain storms shape the landscape by smoothing out rugged and jagged rock formations into smooth organic forms that please the eye.
Gnarly trees grow out of rock formations that defy their possible existence and provide as sculptural quality to your view.

The San Rafael Swell
Inspiration comes in serendipitous ways, as how the San Rafael Swell came to me. Located in Southwest Utah the area was formed by a massive uplift and subsequent erosion creating landscapes rich in colorful sandstone and limestone formations.
Lance Snarr, from YouTube's "Adventure of Shadow" took a rockhound adventure to the San Rafael Swell and filmed his trip for video publication. He took his drone camera and went into slot canyons filming inaccessible areas and discovered a land formation so extraordinary.
I viewed this video film and absolutely was shocked by what he captured. Hidden away in a slot canyon was a massive skull like bone formation with a waterfall carved into it.
Being a Georgia O'Keeffe enthusiast for the past 50 years, I knew in a heartbeat that this is a land formation O'Keeffe would have gone nuts over and would have absolutely painted.
So I naturally painted the land feature and dedicated these paintings to her.
