Rocks and Minerals
Rocks and Minerals are a big part of my life since childhood and have been a serious collector for decades.
With Galena Beads, I was able to incorporate this love and passion for semi-precious stones into a huge part of the bead inventorry I sold at my Historic Galena IL shop. I aimed the store's direction into learning about rocks and minerals and exposing my customers to a higher quality of jewelry making. It was very successful at doing that.
Moving to California, I had no idea the hotbed of Agates and Jaspers I had landed in. As I was Plein Air Painting the California Landscape, I became intrigued by the land formations and the big question developed of why it looked as it did. I do consider myself a Geology Enthusiast at this point in my life and joined the Yucaipa Valley Rock and Mineral Society in Yucaipa CA. Here I discovered Geology of the the region, Lapidary skills, and Silversmithing Jewelry. The club has a full workshop to explore with huge saws to slice open rocks into slabs showing a whole different perspective view. Inside these rocks I sliced open was an incredible world of Abstract Art I discovered.
World of Rocks
There is incredible Abstract imagery in Rocks in which these elements expanded my my mind and abstract thinking.

Tribute to Lahaina
Above is a tribute to Lahaina Maui after the fires that struck there. I came close to being in this place at this devastating time. 12 hours later I would have board a plane for Lahaina. I planned on painting it's beautiful Banyan Tree in the town square.
I took my Moonlit Banyan Tree painting and placed it for the background, set a thick slab down representing Maui Island, and then placed my Montana Agate shaped as a sleeping/resting woman upon the island shape to rest and heal. Then I prayed for its people.

Rock Tumbling
Montana Agates are hidden treasures of mysterious abstractions. First you take the unusual russet potato shaped rock and sense its secrets inside from its glow.
Slicing them into slabs reveals the abstract shapes inside from the moss, staining, or Dendrites.
Rock tumbling softens and polishes the shape creating incredible obdjects of desire.

Jade Obsession
My Jade obsession started in 1991 with a trip to Jade Cove, Big Sur California. Driving down Highway 1 I pulled over to explore a small sign with an arrow I saw.
To the cliff's edge I went and shimmied down a rope along the steep path to the beach. The sing-song of the pebbles in the surf sounded like a rain stick. I held by breath here for a bit hoping to slow down time from the pleasure of the experience The sound holds fierce in my heart to this day. Such beauty was overwhelming in the rugged falling rock cliffsides and tumbling waves at my feet felt like blessing upon me with each gentle touch. The sun lights up the jade's color just a bit for you to pick up a few pieces.
Jade Cove is a place everyone needs to visit at least once in their life.
