Born from fantasy and imagination, these Phantasmic Abstracts are inspired by the American Landscape. The paintings are the result of being playful and experimenting with ideas I had from traveling across country doing my Art Show circuit in the 1990's. I often wondered, what a wash of color would look like coming down a mountain side. Then another color from another canyon wall. What effect would show from the action of a rushing torrent of liquefied paint. Back in my studio I created my imaginary landscapes experimenting many different ways until I was satisfied with my developed technique.
Tesla's Passion
Painted during a severe thunderstorm, lightening struck the building next to my studio as I was creating Tesla's Passion . It was one of those storms, that makes the hair on your arms raise, from all the electric energy in the air. It was one of those storms Tesla would have loved!
I noticed my paint was acting differently near the end of layering my pours especially the lime green layer. It would not spread out and just made lines across the canvas. My gut response just went with the flow.
When dry, I hung the canvas on my studio wall. In this position you can see an abstract form of a man of energy emerging wanting to walk out of the canvas.
What a storm that was I had to name it after Tesla and his passion for "Electric Power".
